Today is her one week anniversary with our family. We hadn't planned on adopting so soon after losing Sara, but I spotted this girl on Petfinder and was immediately struck by her intelligent, sensitive face. My husband and I mulled it over for about a day, and although she was 12 hours away, decided to rent a car and go get her.
The drive was beautiful, and the short vacation just what we needed (I'll share more pictures from our trip later on). Once we reached our destination, the good folks at Noah's Ark Shelter in Trinidad, Colorado were waiting for us, and soon Tess was tucked safely in the backseat of our car.
She's just over a year old and has already had a pretty tough life--including mistreatment, neglect, life as a stray, and pregnancy. She weaned her puppies about a month ago and is a bit skinny as a result, although she's already starting to fill out. Also, because she's had such a tough time already, she's learned to be scared of most things. She was quite frightened during her first few days with us, but is blossoming faster than either of us anticipated. She's already playing with her toys and following us from room to room, and today she went to the park for her very first photoshoot.
It's really been a relief to have her here. She's a beautiful girl and incredibly smart, and although Sara is very much in our thoughts, Tess is a welcome addition to our lives.

We're getting a print of this one:

Welcome home, Tess. <3
